Hello friend, welcome to 10 Bestest I’m Brian Hart. I’m Karen McFarlane Holman. And here we go with another episode, I’m really glad we’re here because it kind of wants to make it to this week. Yes. There’s a little story behind that. Maybe we’ll talk a little more about that later, but I’m really glad you’re here.
I am very glad I’m here. But I get to go first this time. So my cool sheet is going to be a series of articles and has so. Kind of assuming that a lot of people have seen or heard of squid game. It is the biggest phenomenon in Netflix history ever. Literally the number one most watched show ever.
So. There’s a series of articles of what you can read after you’ve binged squid game. And it’s called wondering if you would survive. Here’s what to read by the New York times. So again, squiggle and just its first four weeks at time of recording 142 million accounts on Netflix. And that doesn’t include, like if you’re sharing it with someone have tuned into squint games.
So two out of every three. Subscribers around the world have watched the show for at least two minutes. The company says so just in case you don’t know what it is or is a quick summary, hundreds of cash strap players, except a strange invitation to compete in children’s games, inside a tempting prize awaits with deadly high stakes and the.
Underlined as a survival game that has a 45.6 billion one prize at stake. I think it’s like 50, some billion million dollars or something. It’s a lot of money for anyone to win. So there’s all of these articles again that Kind of sourced from different places. Like Dr. Sung Lee, an expert in Korean film and television from a university from the age talks about why it’s popular and the show focus the ever increasing gap of the rich and poor as Peru proved timely for audiences.
It’s about homo economics rather than homosapians. These people who only think about money. The is characters, which is kind of this parallel that we’re living now, even more than lately, there are so many different articles. So I have a whole list of you check the show notes for what to watch after squeaking.
Well, apparently I’m one of the very few people who have not watched it. I have a feeling maybe. Yes. So you’ve ever heard of it. Most everybody has probably heard about it now, but I didn’t know what it was about. I didn’t, I had no idea. So I’m glad that you gave a summary of it. I, and I, all I’ve heard about it is someone said, oh, maybe you should want.
And then they kind of said, mm, although it’s not really for everyone. And I kind of shied away from it, but it sounded like there was a little bit of a gore. There’s a lot of Gore’s. So it’s very, it’s very gory, but you know, I don’t know. It’s hard for me cause I’m a little bit desensitized and I’m used to.
Cinema. I love Korean films. I was huge fan of the original old boy. I showed it to all my friends. They questioned my sanity afterwards because it’s hardcore, you know, a parasite of course won an Oscar, but it’s different. It’s not quite gory, but it does have this ratchet intention. And so it’s got a lot of that.
It’s got a lot of. Elements of old boy and parasite. And you know, then that’s a little unusual for a series. What you would kind of call a TV series in Korea. Usually they’re more like mellow drama and comedies. And so this is kind of the first time where they took a series and made it like their cinema was, is super dark, very dark humor.
But very, very graphic for sure. But sometimes some people have said that if it’s so stylized and overblown, it’s more like a comic book movie. Like it’s so like it’s over the top. It’s not realistic. Although this takes real situations and what makes the show so good is it takes these big questions, these human moments and vulnerabilities of people.
And so it’s. Micro and macro. So it goes out on those society. You know, Korea is very good. Snowpiercer also, and, and parasite is about classism, about rich people, poor people, people in between. And it really does such a good end and, and, you know, You know, that’s definitely something we can relate to here in the states or probably anywhere you live.
But what I notice about these articles, which really says how big this show is, is it was like men’s health, an eat magazine, a women’s magazine. I mean, every spectrum, even kind of like a teen magazine, which is definitely borderline. If younger people should see it. Yeah. Everybody is like getting a piece of the action or whatever you want to call it because it’s so.
Universal. And there’s all these crazy concepts from every point of view. So it’s pretty interesting that this list of articles and that’s why I like this one so much is that you can find anything that might interest you. But I would say, I don’t know if I recommend it. If you, if you can handle some gore.
People getting shot and dying. The F the sociology, the, all of that is pretty fascinating. And you’ll think about it. I think besides the gore part, you’ll think about it for a long time. Me and my colleagues are still talking about it. Oh, wow. Like, We talked about last night and different things and it’s pretty wild.
It’s pretty, it’s a phenomenon for sure. Well, thanks for talking about it. Cause now I kind of know what it is. Yeah. You can at least maybe a little more prepared if you’re in that kind of mood or not. And to see that list of articles, go to Tim desis.com/squid game. We’ll get you right to it. Perfect. All right.
Thanks so much. Michael sheet. I am going to be talking about a video and this is why is being scared. So fun. Maybe this is related to, I don’t know if it’s good games scary, but anyway, why is being scared? So fun. Fear is often perceived as being a negative feeling. We are warned, the acting out of fear, never leads to anything.
Good. We are told that we should be brave, but one article I read recently talked about how we eat. Act out of love or fear as if they are mutually exclusive. And I thought that can be totally right. And this video speaks to that. So in this video, this talks about all of the positive aspects of the feeling of fear, which gave me a whole new perspective on it.
And I really enjoy. Fear does have an important role evolutionarily speaking. And many of us know this is tied in with fight or flight instinct, which is crucial for survival. In some situations, the body shuts down other systems like rational thinking so that we can take care of the business whatever’s happening, right.
Then Pronto to get out of harm’s way when we are in real danger. We are in a state of high arousal. Our endocrine system has an enormously complex set of pathways that ultimately floods our bloodstream with amazing chemicals, such as adrenaline and cortisol, as well as a jolt of glucose, blood sugar.
These chemicals play a role in being able to take on a saber tooth tiger, but they also inhibit our everyday life. If we are prone to have. However, there’s another situation that involves these chemicals and that is putting ourselves in states of fear for fun. So think about it. If the endocrine system is giving us this rush of adrenaline cortisol and blood sugar, all of which give us a ton of energy, heightened awareness and allow us to lose sense of pain.
That is actually a physical state of being that a lot of. Seek out by doing addictive drugs. So we take that into account and we, it can be way more understandable that many people are seeking out these fear-based basic activities, but if you do it in a safe space, like a rollercoaster or something, it can be really, really fun.
So this video is great. It goes into it. It’s on Ted ed and I really, really enjoyed it. Why is being scared? So. This is this kind of tie in. I like how that worked with the game a little bit, because certainly the characters were scared for their life guidance, but also kind of having fun. I think at moments maybe without giving up too much, I am, but you know, I have heard this a lot of the times, and this is actually why a lot of dates, they go to a scary movie.
And I’ve actually heard that. It’s a good idea. If you want to maybe get lucky because you’re getting all these like, emotions that are really close to having sex, like the same similar one. And it’s like, oh, you know, and so I’m just like, just put it out. I just heard these things. I’ve never done that. I know the video does speak to that.
Fear of being a bonding experience to people, if you’re both feeling it and it speaks about like, if you like scream out and the other. Here’s that and they start to feel it too. So yeah. Yeah, absolutely. That’s there and yeah. And a lot of those hormones are totally like, they are parallel to. And like you said, when you take the, the actual danger, the physical harm out of.
You’re getting all the good stuff, even though it’s in this scary way, but none, none of the actual pain and physical stuff, although then that kind of maybe can kind of say, oh, this is why SNM. And this is why these other kind of genres, you’re almost like mixing, you know, these senses and. Kind of addicted to that or whatever they’re always and just like drugs.
Right? You ratchet it up. You’re like, oh, what’s a little bit more, what’s a little bit more exciting or whatever. So yeah, you can at least kind of, if you don’t want to participate seeing this, like, oh, now I kind of get it. You know, it makes sense to me. So I like that. Yeah. So I always stay curious here. I know it is fun.
Yeah. And it’s also short video, so you’ll like that, like that means that might be a little bit. Thank you so much. You’re welcome. Again, the show notes are on 10 buses.com/squid game. All lower case. All one word squid game. All right. Michael sheet is going to be a YouTube channel and. Channel is called pick up limes.
I love the word play there. It’s got 3.6, 3 million subscribers, 156 videos. But I’ve just heard about it, which I love. This is such a great thing about YouTube. It’s another show based out of the Netherlands, which last week I talked about not just bikes, which was from the Netherlands. So I don’t know if it’s that algorithm of like, oh, they like Netherlands films YouTube channels.
All of a sudden got this one suggested it’s hosted by the beautiful and friendly Sadia. She welcomes all foodies and beautiful souls. She says welcome to the P U L family. Our mission is to make nourishing plant-based lifestyle accessible to everyone. So she does. Kind of mostly have vegan recipes and vegan food, although she does every once in a while do like productivity, like dealing with over thinking or productivity methods.
So I love how she sprinkles that in, but mostly it’s about plant-based vegan food and how to make this amazing, delicious food. So good. So she embarked on a six month backpacking trip where she met Robin her on a beautiful beach in Thailand. They traveled together, they created a bond and she ended up leaving her family and moving in with this guy.
And they all kind of thought she was crazy. But she, she kind of just went for it and they’d been together ever since. I think that was five years ago. And so it talks about the relationship a little bit and how it worked out. She also, since she didn’t have a job, she started working on this, a YouTube channel and blog the plants.
Okay. So I already knew we were kindred spirits. When I saw the plants in her background. She just has all this Ivy and all these plans hanging behind her. It is something that now I have something even more to inspire for. They’re so great. Just check that out. If. But she has so many different recipes meal prep for under $2 cooking skills.
I wish I’d learned sooner breakfast meal prep, tons of different. And like I said, all vegan, but if you are not a vegan, you will get so much out of this pickup line. I want to see the plan. Yeah. You’re going to have to go. You’re going to have to go to our link on 10, best as.com/squid game to check out that channel.
You will love it. Julian love it. I, yeah. And it’s another one. Of course, I’ve talked about this a lot, but it’s the personality, right? I mean, there’s tons of. Vegan recipes. You can find anything online right now, but it’s her personality, her sweet soul. And she’s just so loving and friendly. And then, like I said, even if you’re not vegan, I’m not vegan.
I’m not vegetarian, but here’s a pro tip. You can get a lot of flavor and really kick up your, any meal by watching what vegans do. They are experts in spot. Fresh herbs, fresh ingredients. Your size will be on point. Your anything will be so much better because they are masters of it. The bland vegan, like that is so 10 years ago.
Now it is some of the best food on the planet. And if you want to mix in some meat, that’s your prerogative. That’s what I do. Just makes it even bad. But I do like eating vegan a lot of the times as well. And now it’s because of this, people like to just share that knowledge and this amazing flavor. It is not what it used to be.
That’s incredible. I’m going to share that with doing it. Yeah. Immediately. Yeah, and I’m excited to watch it too. So you’re very welcome. Excellent. Michael’s sheet in this vein of food, I’m going to be talking about kitchen science, and this is another one of those ideas that Brian gave me. And that is to talk about the mired reaction.
I love the mired reaction. This is a chemical reaction between certain types of sugar and amino acids. Amino acids are in proteins, and that creates this mired reaction. That is so important in many. As I said, it can’t be just any sugar and needs to be some special kind called reducing sugar. So regular table sugar, which is called sucrose does not work for this instead.
Fructose glucose and others are this reducing sugar. And this means that the sugar itself is easily able to give electrons to other molecules. That’s the chemical description of that. This reducing. Reacts with the amino acids, which explains why this reaction is best known for happening in meats.
However, there are many other foods that have protein that you might not think of such as breads that have gluten, which is a protein. This chemical reaction gives rise to a few different molecules. Many of which are brown in color, giving that yummy golden brown crust that we see on breads or that dark sear that we see in.
Some people confuse the mired reaction with criminalization, but criminalization only requires sugar and is a completely different chemical reaction. They get confused. However, because the Browning is similar and the flavors can sometimes be similar as. One thing that’s interesting for both chemists and chefs is that the mired reaction occurs much more readily in alkaline conditions.
This is the opposite of acidic conditions. For example, acids like vinegar or lemon juice, they have low pH pure water is neutral pH and then alkaline things are like eggs or milk and they have a pH that’s higher than seven. So depending on how you bring in acidity or. Alkalinity. You can change the mired reaction.
You can encourage it. And there are so many possible chemical products that occur that give so many different flavors that are related to the mired reaction. Sure. Oh my gosh. So I am so glad that you, I knew you had explained this way better than I could, and I’ve been really. Studying this one lot, because I was like the same, like you said, I was getting criminalization and this reaction confused because you know, they, like you said, they essentially are the same thing.
So when I caramelized onions, that’s criminalization because that’s breaking down the sugars and you’re creating this. That’s why they even a really pungent onion. Sweet. Amazing thing. Gosh, cooking is so wonderful. I think I like it so much cause I love to eat. Of course. And it’s science. It is science and that’s, what’s so fascinating to me, but I, yeah, I always thought it was a little bit different and I had no idea.
It was just cause you know, I didn’t think about it. It’s totally Maillard reaction. And so it’s so cool. And yeah, once, you know, it’s a big pro tip in the kitchen when you use one of those two, depending on what you’re cooking. I D it’s one of those things that takes that. To the next level. It really does.
And there are hundreds of these product molecules that can you, that you can get. And then that will depend on what else is in there. What was the temperature? I didn’t talk about temperature that plays a huge role as well. Mired reaction doesn’t happen until you get to 140 degrees Celsius. I’m sorry. I don’t know what that is in Fahrenheit.
So and so the mired reaction happens beautifully because then the molecules have enough energy to react together. You once you get above a certain temperature, I think it’s about 180 ish centigrade. Then you start getting other products, which are not so good. In fact, you can get a carcinogen acrylamide is you do not want that.
But caramelization does happen at the higher temperatures. So you need to know what’s in there. You need to know what temperature to be at. Yeah, that’s fascinating because yeah, it could be dangerous. And I will say that you can taste it once it gets to the bad part. The nice thing about these. These things are not good for you.
A lot of the times they don’t taste great. Sometimes they do, but sometimes they don’t. So, yeah, but you don’t want to knowing the science behind it, knowing that there’s a temperature point can help you a lot to avoid that without just learning the hard way every time, which is what I used to do, you know, it’s just like experimenting and cause I would still eat it, you know?
And now, I mean, Actually eating something bad for me at the time. I didn’t know exactly I can happen, so, so cool. Thank you so much. You’re welcome. It was everything I wanted and more so my pleasure. So much talking chemistry and anything. Yes. All right. I’m going to be talking about an app and this app is called notion.
Now I’ve had this kind of on my list for a long time, but I really wanted to start using it and. If you took Evernote and Trello and Google calendar and Dropbox and possibly every other organizational app and it had a baby you’d get notion. So it is a game changer and it is actually going to be the app that changes me from using Evernote is my note taking app.
And I’m switching. I have switched now to notion. I talked about Evernote as a cool sheet in episode 77. So I’ve been using it. I use it for all my. For the show and pretty much everything. It’s my brain dump. It’s the way I remember things. And this is notion is just better. So you’re, you’re blending much of the workflow into this all.
Workspace. So you want a task list? They can do it a product roadmap, no problem. Design repository. Yep. They got it. It’s all there. One place. So it’s kind of like Lego box. You can take bits and pieces and in the format into your own like mega whatever you wanted to do. And that’s why that’s the power behind it.
It can be super simple, but it can also be super, super custom custom. You can customize it for anything you want. So it is so great. Karen, you talked about, I think Kanban boards or Trello in episode 180 6. So it does. Absolutely like one of the options create a new and it just says board and boom, you have a Trello board, you have that whole experience.
But like I said, you can connect it to a calendar, to a task list, to a, just a check-off list, everything in between. And, and, and, and so you can make it super simple and just have that experience of that Kanban. Which I’ll have to show you a graphic. If you don’t know what that is, it is a very specific thing, but it’s super useful and super productive.
So has lists notes, calendars, checklists, timelines, galleries, so many different things. And there are a plethora of YouTube productive experts that use this all the time, but also pick big companies like Pixar. IBM, Nike, Spotify, and slack, even slack is using it. That says a lot. There’s tons of free templates.
And I mean, tons definitely check out notion. I’m sold. I didn’t even talk about some of the other good stuff. Oh my gosh. Free for solo people. So unless you’re sharing it with us as a business, it is a hundred percent free. Wow. Yeah. Crazy. Like they just released a bunch of more stuff. That’s so it’s like more of it’s free.
Cause it used to be like part of it for free, but it was pretty watered down. And now it’s like, if you’re just doing it as a solo organization, It is completely free. What else is in it? That’s I didn’t even get to talk about, oh, it’s cross-platform that’s great. So your phone, whether it’s a Google phone or an iPhone whether you have a PC or a Mac or all of them, let’s say you have, for some reason you get it.
Not many, many people have phones, but I do have a PC at work and a Mac at home and boom, boom, boom, sync automatic. You can watch it sync as you’re typing. It’s kind of like the Google sheets or something like that, where it’s just. Bap bap like really quickly, almost in real time. It’s amazing. It is the end.
You know, mark, I will give a shout out to Mark Green. He told me about this a long time ago. He’s been trying to integrate it into our river city workflow. He’s got a pro account because that way you can share it with multiple people, multiple councils, sign it and do things like that. But I was like, Hey, and we like everybody was cause it’s one more thing you have to like learn the system.
It does take awhile. You do have to take some investment and it can seem over. Yeah, but once you kind of get the flow, just go slow, go. Like I said, there are so many videos online of how to use it. Just go bit by bit and don’t waste your time. Like, don’t just do it because it’s the new hottest thing. You do want to make sure that it works for you and, and you’re eventually going to get to the point once you know how to use it, that it will save you time versus like having to learn a whole new system.
I totally get that. It’s overwhelming sometimes. But I think it’s worth it. Yeah. Oh, it sounds like an amazing, just. Yeah, like I said, I’m sold, but now you told me it was free. So I’m what am I I’m I’m convinced. Well, good. You can definitely check it out on our show notes. I’ll have links to a couple of my favorite videos and actually you tubers that just specialize a notion.
Like that’s their thing. They have a whole channel based on just using notion. Wild. It is out there in the online world, but I’ll give you a link yet to, to notion to some good videos, how to, where to get started. So hopefully it isn’t quite as intimidating. Check that out on our show notes. The 10 best cis.com/squid.
Excellent. Thank you. Very welcome. My cool sheet is an app. This is called Dalio part of creating a habit and understanding yourself better is to have awareness, but sometimes the days float by and at least I have selective memories of what the past week was like, what the past month was like. And this app has helped me really monitor what is going on in my life.
The app isn’t complicated, but I think that’s why it’s working for my son who then passed on to me and it’s working for me as well. It’s an app that allows for super fast monitoring and logging of your days, you can create a daily entry in two taps, virtually first, picking a mood for that day, and then log the activities that you did.
The app then takes the data to display your stats via charts and correlate. You can also use it for more structured monitoring, such as creating and following your progress towards your goals. You can also have a journal that is locked with a pen. If that’s important to you that separate from your phone.
And overview of Dalio’s features that I enjoy are that there’s a big database of beautiful icons for custom activities. How you can mix and match your own moods that use unique emojis there’s exploring interesting monthly or yearly statistics created from your. There’s using it for motivation by creating daily, weekly, or monthly goals, you can also build habits and collect achievements.
And if you want, I haven’t done this, but sharing statistics with your friends and there can be reminders and you can even export the data as a file document so that you can analyze it. If. There are other customizables that just make it more nice to use. This app has been really helpful for us to monitor and understand the grief we’ve been experiencing over the past six weeks since our dear sweet best friend and family pet Griffin passed away.
And we have both appreciated how this app has helped us. So thank you to Dalio. This sounds really cool. So it’s a little more than just a journal app, which I thought I was kinda thinking this is journal app now. You know, at the same time intrigued. Cause I love apps and I love new things. But then I was like another journaling app.
Like I can kind of like notion I was at first for a long time. I was like, I can do another one, like stick with what I know. And I do really am starting to use day one every day, which is a form of coaching, but this sounds cool. And you know, this is reminds me a lot about. Yes. Recognizing your state essentially.
So they, I love how they’ve incorporated that without meditation or really even calling it mindfulness, but that is certainly what it’s doing. And of course, that’s very much backed by science and experts around the world. How good that is for you. So this. I’m going to have to check it out. Yeah. And it has made me pause and journal a little bit.
I keep it really short in there. I didn’t think I would do that, but it’s like, I’m already choosing these other things and I just make, I feel notes. Right. And yeah. And that’s a great little stepping stone to start journaling or a different kind of journaling, but it can say a lot. Right. And then once you reflect and look back, that’s really helpful.
Yeah, for sure. So is it a free app or is it normally. There you go, you can, of course you can do the upgrade to the professional, but yeah, it’s, it does everything I want with just the free, so. Cool. That’s great. Well, thank you so much. You’re welcome. All right. I am going to be talking about an exercise recovery item, I guess this is the error relax leg recovery system.
So there’s a saying. That when working out you don’t make progress or become more fit when you’re working out, it’s actually when you’re in recovery and that’s actually true and backed by science. So you’re tearing down your muscle fibers and that is actually doing kind of harm to your body, but your body is such an amazing miracle that when you recover, it builds.
Fiber’s up stronger. That’s why your muscles grow to break it down to really simple terms and that’s, you know, so it’s actually the rest, the sleep, the nutrition, and all of that when you become stronger. So the cycle is known as hypertrophy and it wouldn’t be possible without rest. So I talked about These things called compression socks a long time ago.
It was episode like seven or something like this. And I still like them today, but this is kind of compression socks on steroids. So it’s this entire, like, I can’t even on YouTube. I’m not even going to be able to bring it out. Like it’s so massive. Like it’s these giant inflatable leg things. Sleeves that you put your leg in, completely zip it all the way up and then plug it into this system here.
And then it essentially just fills with air and compresses your leg. And you have a, you can go pretty light or pretty, pretty like compression, very in a high level. And I have never done something where I have. Relief after running it’s it’s like some kind of voodoo. So after I did here to coast, when I was super under-trained and I was going to like, I’m going to be sore for four days, I went into actually a place here in town and use their, a different brand, but the same kind of compression.
And by the next day I was totally fine. I could walk. It is. So it’s a little bit expensive for sure, but definitely check out this compression system. Even if you’re not an athlete, it just feels good. It’s like a free massage all the time. Anytime you want it, check him up. How does it work? Like what is it about the squeezing that, well, I mean, if you think about massage, so you’re, you’re getting this compression technology, so it increases blood flow.
It does all of these things. In fact, I think I didn’t even get to my notes of what it says. It’s really good for you. But it does all these things. It’s like massaging your muscle. It’s giving, increasing blood flow. It’s doing all of these things. So like, like you would get a massage table, you know, or something like that.
After Rumba, you can do at home, you can do it solo. You can watch TV, read a book, you can still do things and at the comfort of your own home. So I used to do it even like when I wasn’t working out all the time, just after work as like a wind down. And I just, yeah, it increases circulation and blood flow and it.
Feels really good. I mean, as you want, but yeah, it’s wild. Like you get all puffed up and like, your legs are just like the, kind of like the marshmallow guys, Ghostbusters or something. Like, it’s really funny looking. It’s not something that you just want to have friends over. Excuse me. It is kind of. Funny noises and stuff, but yeah, like the best recovery tool I’ve ever used in my life, that hands down that is amazing.
I had to talk about it. Like I said, it’s literally in the 602, they have a $1,200 model model. That’s way less. Expensive than some of the other name, brand things. So it’s reasonable, but it is an investment for sure. But for me it was worth it. Yeah, for sure. That sounds amazing. Yeah. Ooh, thanks for sharing that.
I’m actually surprised you haven’t talked about it. So I’ve held back, I think because of the price. Cause I’ve had this for years, but it’s, it’s an investment for sure. 10 vessels.com/squid game, and learn a little more about it. See if you want to like it. Or like I said, go to a spot place. They might have it.
I think Norma tech or normal tech is the bigger brand and most places have same idea though. And see if it works for you. See if you like it. Yeah. Excellent. Thank you. You’re welcome. My call sheet. I’m going to be talking about something that is travel related. But also a little bit of work and that is given away by the name of this organization.
It is called Workaway. Firstly, I want to let you know that their website is workaway.info. There are other Workaway organizations, and I don’t want you to get confused with that. this1@workaway.info is the one you want to go to work away is an organization that is building a community of global travelers who generally genuinely want to see the world.
Well also contributing and giving back to the places that they visit. If you’re a regular listener to 10 Bestos, this concept might sound very familiar to a Google sheet. I talked about in episode 201 regenerative tourism, where tourists are more mindful about their travels work away. However, Takes regenerative tourism to a different level.
They are creating a means for travelers to have an immersive experience living in a place and actually working on the grounds and helping their hosts in exchange for room and board. This might also sound a lot like woofing, something else that I talked about in episode 106. But wolfing focuses on traveling to organic farms and tends to expect longer work terms work away.
On the other hand has hosts that offer a much more diverse array of opportunities. For example, one that caught my eye was in the Caribbean and the us Virgin islands, where you work at a wellness retreat site. And it just sounds dream. Here’s some other headlines posted by Workaway hosts that I also found interesting.
One is helping with flood protection and general property improvement in the beautiful south island of New Zealand. One said help our family with our projects in the Canary islands, help add an art academy for children and young people in Peru. And another one said, just talking English or French to Moroccan state.
I love this idea that they have, it’s been going for quite some time and just and has really high, very high like 4.9 out of 500. Workaway tell you about sign me up. I was like, I want to go there. Oh, I really want to go to New Zealand. Oh my God. Peru. Oh my God. I just gave whatever. That was five examples.
And there are hundreds. I feel like I’ve heard of this when I was really thinking about wolfing and doing these other kind of essentially traveled things. But on, on uh, cause this is kind of a way you can do. Affordable know it’s affordable because you’re trading sweat equity or whatever you want to call it.
So I think, I feel like I’ve heard about that one and I kind of forgot about it. So thank you so much for putting that back on my radar. I cannot wait to check this out. Yeah. Take a sabbatical and do it. And a lot of them are generally four to five work hours per day. So you can work. Part-time. And I’m sure you can pick brings to amazing.
Yeah, boy. Oh boy. That’s going to be fun. Yes. Thank you so much. Check that out. 10 buses.com/squid game. All lower case. All one word one zero bestos.com/squid game. I know I will check it out. All right. My sheet is going to be a tick-tock account and this one is PDU. So PD has a 1.1 million followers 21.9 million likes at time of recording.
And I don’t even know how to describe him though. PD, if you like a Bo Burnham, which I talked about as a previous school sheet, I think you’ll like PD, you super quirky. He’s kind of odd and awkward, but he’s also super hilarious. So there’s kind of this multi-person trend on. Tik TOK sometimes where someone talks, you know, like they have a conversation, but it’s the same person, but they intersplice, it it’s just that tactile thing that I love.
But he kind of takes it to the next level. So usually there’s three or four of them having a conversation. So it’s always him, just him and Eddie just starts talking to himself with this group of people like his buddies. And he loves saying, man, like, Hey man, that’s cool, man. Okay, man. He takes on these.
Cliches and everyday life and trivial things that but then makes them funny. This is kind of like what Seinfeld is really known for. He takes these everyday moments in life and then twist them and kind of questions them, or just puts a spotlight on them. It makes them really funny and you’re like, oh yeah, I’ve totally done.
So he rhymes a lot too. Like I said, he’s super awkward. It’s usually sometimes just complete nonsense. It doesn’t make sense. It’s not a trivial thing that you would think of, but he, he points it out and then you do think about it and he loves it. He also loves to drink Miller light on his little skits, which is super funny.
He’s just, he’s so funny. I cannot under. It’s just my style of humor. I love it. So one of his, and I’ve shared this with Karen is like getting he’s like, oh, someone just asked me to take him to the airport and immediately if you’ve probably had that from your friend and you know, kind of the dread that goes along with it.
And then the next PD says, oh my God, you’re so lucky. One. ’cause like, I know, like I can’t believe it. And so they actually act like how great it is. And so it’s the opposite of what normal people think. And he makes it like, this is some kind of amazing honor that he got asked to do. And he’s like, what should I do?
What should I say? Yes. Right away. Say yes. Before they change their mind. It’s hilarious. Definitely check out BD. Yeah. I was the, as you were talking, I was like, hi. And that guy. And I was like, yes, because you share that one with me. And I think maybe I’ve shared a couple of others. There’s so many, I’ll provide a couple of links to some of my favorite there’s like baby hand, strong baby or something.
There’s like PISA, like he’s. So he’s just so great. If he’s on another level that. Could never aspire to, and that’s why I love him so much. And I do. I love those talking to yourself. Yeah, it is. It’s kind of, I didn’t really notice it until Tik TOK, but it’s, it’s a big trend on tectonic. It’s super funny.
And like I said, the fact that he has three or four or five of themselves doing it makes it even funnier because again, he takes something kind of silly. It was tick-tock base, takes it to the 11. That’s it sounds like he does very well. Well, thank you. I’ll I’ll explore beyond what you’ve shared with me.
My call sheet. I am going to be talking about a article and a music video, and I’m also going to be talking about one of the kids who’s involved with this. This is called the name of the song is called the children. The children will rise. This music video must be watched by everyone on the planet.
That’s what I think it is a song created by 11 year old drummer Nandy, bushel. In collaboration with Tom Morello, from rage against the machine and Tom’s son, Roman Morello, who was also quite young. I’m guessing he’s early teens. Who’s rocking out on guitar. Nan DDO steals the show she sings, but also with the help of green screens and video editing, she is also playing drums and kicking.
The video itself has this air of charming amateurism as if kids actually made it, which maybe they did. And I just love that while she was working with this millionaire musician, Tom Morello, there was no attempt to make it all slick. It is viscerally real from a kid’s point of view, you must watch this video to see in here, her power and anguish and insistence that children’s voices will be heard while the song is called.
The children will rise. The line that stood out to me was our voices will be heard and how it was a demand. She will not take no for an answer. This girl that is clear, it was also super fun that Jack Black and Tom Morello both make appearances as well as does Gretta thunbergii you will be so impressed by her drumming.
And just to give you a taste, she has done a drum battle in September, 2020 with Dave girl of Nirvana. And a food fighters, of course. And that video is on YouTube and is so much fun to watch and is, and is also a must watch. Actually, the article also includes links to other important climate change related updates that are important to keep ourselves aware of.
I love that the kids are taking their future into their own hands because they know that they cannot trust us adults to take care of the earth, that they will be living in, check out Nandy, bushel, and her song. The children will rise. Sure. Yes. Rise up kids. I love it. So I actually, I haven’t seen this video, but when you said like everybody should watch it.
When I saw it on the notes, I went and saw it immediately. Well, I better watch this. I want to be in the cool kid club. And so, and I am really glad I do. I will see. And you described this very well. For me, it was like sensory overload almost. And being a video editor, I was like, what is going on right now?
Who edited this? I’m like, I hope it’s kids because it is insane. So be prepared for like a ton of stuff, but that is kind of, what’s the power behind it as well, but it took me by surprise a little bit. Yeah. So I was like, what is happening? That’s why I am guessing that either kids did it or someone.
Who was imagining how kids would do it, because if you’re first learning how to video edit, you want to put everything in there. How am I going to exposure right here? It doesn’t make sense. That’s all I do it. It’s cool. This like crazy, like effective thing. And like it’s a lot. Yeah. It’s funny because yeah, as you become a professional editor, which I am, that’s my day job you know, it’s always like.
It’s already subtlety. It’s always that even if you’re making it seem like it’s not polished, you’re still making it simple. There’s all these things that we do as professional editors. So this was just like threw it all away, which was again, what made it kind of cool. And I’ve actually, I do know her because of the drum off and some other YouTube videos.
So I was like, great. I recognize this person. I looked through the rest of the videos and I’m like, ah, yeah, she’s a force of nature for sure. And the fact that Greg. It was a part of it, like that tells you that her mission and everything is so good. She’s going places for sure. Yeah. Yeah. Awesome. Thank you so much for sharing that.
